On January 12th many of us attended the annual SWHBA Awards Banquet, held again this year at Park Lane Ranch. The weather was much more accommodating. We had a delightful time, enjoying fellowship with friends, good food and the giving out of the beautiful awards to those who worked so hard all year to earn them. Congratulations to all. A complete listing of the recipients for this year’s awards is on the website. If you earned an award and were not able to attend the banquet, please be sure to get it from Margo at the Marshall show. She will bring them there, after that you will have to make arrangements with her to get them. A very special Thank You to Margo for all the hard work she did, organizing the banquet and selecting and purchasing the awards. Ginny Chapman volunteered to head up the banquet duties for 2008.

The new Board Members for 2008 were also elected and are as follows:

Margo Urad, President
Mary Ellen Areaux, Web Site Coordinator
Dodi Speece, Vice President
Kathleen Powell, Secretary
Mary Kirton, Treasurer
Lorraine Rosbury, Newsletter
Ginnny Chapman, Banquet Committee
Darden Gladney

Also, if you haven’t already renewed your membership, PLEASE do that. You must be a member to have your points count at the end of the year. The form is HERE. And, if you haven’t voted for your choice of horse shows that will count for the 2008 High Points, the form to vote is HERE.

Barn News

Please send me news from your barns. Many of your stories are so inspiring, and it is fun to keep up with everyone that way. I know lots of you are “expecting” in the spring, as we are. This will be out first walking horse baby, I can hardly wait and of course it is due the weekend of the Marshall show!

Horse Show News

Believe it or not our very first show is in two and a half weeks!!! Yes it’s true, the Marshall Lions Club 46th Annual Charity Horse Show is February 22-23. The Honorable Wayne Abee will judge this year’s event. This is a show that showcases the Walking Horses, as well as the Racking Horses. Fifteen classes are designated for Racking Horses, and five for Spotted Saddle Horses. I spoke with Dudley Swofford Saturday and he already had 80 stall reservations, so make your plans as soon as possible. Dudley’s number is 903.938.6946.
