DISTANCE RIDER
by Rusti Quinto

The day begins, the sky is dim, all colors fade to gray.
The air is chill with dampness still, as we start on our way.

The saddle creaks, and hoof steps beat the rhythm of each stride
The road goes ever on and on, so on and on we ride.

I love these miles on the trail, through nature's vast domain,
I love these hours in the sun and fog and wind and rain.

I love this horse that carries me, we share each other's need
And eagerness, and tiredness, and stamina and speed.

And I know some think it's crazy, to ride so hard, so far,
But we're distance riders, heart and soul, and we love the way we are.

All trails are paved on a Tennessee Walking Horse!!
